“Dawn and I aren’t background singers simply standing next to Diddy, and Diddy-Dirty Money isn’t just more of the same. It’s an organic group that grew out of a shared passion for music.” Known for having his finger on the pulse of what’s next, Combs had a notion that Richard and Kalenna were kindred spirits when he brought the two together to write songs in 2009.
Together, the threesome create a new sound: train music, an electro-hip hop soul funk experience.
You can come at Diddy’s 2010 effort from so many angles -- it’s a concept album about heartbreak, it introduces the two-woman group Dirty Money, it’s a house music album, his rapping is always up for debate, etc.
-- that it’s hard to pick just one, but to call Last Train to Paris a departure is not just a pun; it ignores the future-pop side of his 2006 effort Press Play and that “Jack U” single he did with dance producer Felix da Housecat.
Being in two groups, Dawn already has 2 consecutive platinum #1 albums under her belt with Danity Kane, a platinum album “Last Train to Paris” with Diddy-Dirty Money, a gold single “Hello Good Morning”, and a 3x platinum single with Diddy-Dirty Money titled “Coming Home”.
In 2011 following her departure from Bad Boy Records, she launched her solo career.
