Chandler police are recommending criminal charges against Hamilton High School Athletic Director Shawn Rustad, saying he, along with Principal Ken James and former head football coach Steve Belles, failed to report violent hazing incidents involving team members to law enforcement.Rustad could face charges of non-compliance with a "duty to report'' law and also child abuse, according to Chandler police.Lehigh Principal Jackie Corey sent an email to parents in the wake of the incident offering a few details."..Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged crime on our campus.As the investigation is active, there is not much I can share with you at this time, but will keep you informed to the best of my ability," the email said.Ken Countryman, the attorney of Hamilton High School football player Nathaniel Thomas, 17, was joined by the teen's family and friends after the Thomas was granted a bond by a Maricopa County Superior Court judge Wednesday afternoon.
The court clerk confirmed charges are filed in the case but said the indictment is sealed pending it being served to the defendants.
The victim, who reported the incident to police Friday, said two male students forced her to perform oral sex on them in a school bathroom.
The incident is still being investigated and no arrests have been made.
The report said the victim attempted to fight off the boys but was eventually placed in a choke hold.
He said he struggled to breathe and had bloodshot eyes after the incident.
